April Harper Grey, known professionally as underscores, is an American musician. Grey grew up in San Francisco. She became interested in composing and recording music at the age of six, and cites Skrillex as an early influence. underscores, who started releasing music as a teenager on SoundCloud in 2013, gained recognition with the release of her single "Mild Season" in 2015. Over the years, she independently released several EPs, including skin purifying treatment (2018), we never got strawberry cake (2019) and character development! (2020). In 2021, she released her debut studio album fishmonger, which received critical acclaim and featured collaborations with notable artists. She followed it up with the EP boneyard aka fearmonger in December 2021. In March 2022, The Atlantic praised her for creating music that transcends traditional boundaries. Underscores continued to make waves with her 2023 single "Count of three (You can eat $#@!)", featuring co-production work from Dylan Brady
