He began playing professionally at age eighteen, playing with musicians such as Johnny Alf, Antonio Carlos & Maria Jocafi and Creuza. In the year 1981 started to follow Hermeto Pascoal , playing with him until 1993 , when he began his solo career. He also played with Egberto Gismonti , Pat Metheny , Gil Evans , Marcus Miller , Charlie Haden , Wagner Tiso , Laertius de Freitas and Nico Assumption . Often acts as a studio musician, having participated disc Guinga , Lenin , Sérgio Ricardo , Leila Pinheiro , Marcus Suzano , Paralamas do Sucesso , Caetano Veloso , Gilberto Gil (the album Alive Saint John , 2001). In 1993 has teamed up with Swiss cellist Daniel Pezzotti for recording the album "Rainbow", running for the Sharp Award for 1995 .
